Today an assembly of young teachers (below 40 years old) from Pahang, Terenganu and Kelantan was held at SMK Padang Enggang in Kota Bharu.

It was held to bring together young teachers who will bring about transformation and guide the youth of Malaysia in achieving vision 2020, aligned with the new Pelan Pembangunan Pendidikan Malaysia.

I think I was the earliest teacher to arrive there from PPDB at a quarter to 7 this morning. Even the registration counter was not opened yet.

Empty chairs awaiting their occupants...

The motto for this year is "Saya nak jadi cikgu"
Had a calm breakfast before the show starts...

Teachers who went there were encouraged to like the GM1M page on Facebook (which I did) to ensure they received up to date information concerning the teaching profession specifically and education world generally.

At about 10 a.m., the show started with the arrival of Deputy Prime Minister, Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin to the main camp. As usual, the singing of the National Anthem kicked off the event, followed by "Ikrar GM1M".

Among the audience present, as usual female teachers dominated the attendance!

Dato' Sri Mustapa Mohamed, the International Trade and Industry Minister...

After the speech by Dato' Pa (as he is fondly known to Kelantanese, especially those in Jeli, TPM gave his speech where he talked about the importance of Higher Order Thinking Skills (HOTS), which I am the Jurulatih Utama Kebangsaan for the programme called iTHink to inculcate HOTS in school. He also talked about English, which is crucial for school leavers and graduates who would like to compete in the working world. Both issues are directly related to me and boy, I have huge responsibilities to uphold!

Flat screens everywhere...

PPPM or Pelan Pembangunan Pendidikan Malaysia 2013-2025 is a reformation in education. There are three objectives; to understand the performance and challenges in education, the students possess aspiration and vision aligned with the current needs of the world, and to underline the reformation within the span of 12 years.

There will be three waves; 2013-2015 (first wave) is to change the support system. 2016-2020 (second wave) is to accelerate the support system and 2021-2025 is to use the support system.

Eleven changes are put forward:
  1. Equality in education.
  2. Every student is proficient.
  3. Students are visionary and have mission to succeed.
  4. To make the teaching profession a first career choice.
  5. Transformation in education-performance leadership in school.
  6. Empowering JPN, PPD and Schools.
  7. The use for ICT to aid T&L processes.
  8. Transformation in delivery system.
  9. Co-operation between parents, society and private sectors.
  10. Quality students.
  11. Accountability.

As for PBS, or Pentaksiran Berasaskan Sekolah started last year for Primary One, hence in 4 years time UPSR would be abolished and in secondary school, just started this year for Form One, therefore in 2 years time PMR would be obsolete.

For the 2013 budget, concerning education, as usual, RM 100 to every student will become an annual gift from the central government as well as the free school fee policy. In addition, KWAMP and e-KASIH will be given to poor students.

All in all, it was an informative event and I'm sure many teachers agreed that the event was useful and will hopefully carry out their duty as an agent of information and as a link from the government to the people.
